Subaru created the SVX, or "Subaru Vehicle X," a sports coupe from 1991 to 1996 with an unusual style and innovative features. As the brand's flagship model, the SVX showcased Subar's engineering prowess and design innovation, which were not typically associated with the brand's practical and rugged vehicles. The SVX's design was distinct and identifiable, thanks to Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro's efforts. Its huge, aircraft-inspired glass canopy that stretched from the windshield to the back allowed for unimpeded panoramic vision, lending it a futuristic and avant-garde appearance. The sleek and aerodynamic body, pop-up headlights, and integrated door handles all contributed to its distinct appearance.

The SVX has a horizontally opposed, or "flat-six" engine. This 3.3-liter, 24-valve, 6-cylinder engine had 230 horsepower and a four-speed automatic transmission. The car's stability and traction were improved by its four-speed automatic transmission and Subaru's all-wheel-drive system. The engine of the Subaru is essentially a six-cylinder version of the EJ22, which was originally found in the first-generation Legacy and Impreza models that were sold in Japan. Even though the SVX performed well, it prioritized luxury and comfort over other sports vehicles.
